Right now my heart is saturated with love for America. Very rarely am I brazenly patriotic but there are the moments when I am certain I bleed red, white & blue. When the news broke about the Fort Hood I felt particularly inclined to support my country. Its already so difficult to read about the violence in the world, but when it is so close to home its difficult to dismiss. I never realized how many people in my life serve in the armed forces. They put their life on the line to protect us. This is a gift that is hard to repay, but I still wondered what I could do to give back.
A short while ago, over a lazy Saturday lunch with a friend, the topic of love came up. I told her that it had recently dawned on me that one of the most profound things we do in life is love another person. There are all types of love and each one is good between the people who have it. I want to show my love for our troops and this just may be a fitting way to do it...
Cosmopolitan Magazine has launched "Kisses for the Troops" an intiative that is asking women to send postcard with lipstick kisses on them to the troops overseas so they can have a kiss on New Year's Eve. Here's their blurb:
" This Veteran’s Day, November 11th, Cosmopolitan and Maybelline New York are planning to set a new Guinness World Record for most lip-print kisses collected in 12 hours on postcards to be mailed to our boys overseas. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday November 11th, Cosmo will have a vehicle traveling throughout New York City collecting kisses. Participants will be asked to leave their kiss mark (Maybelline New York will provide new ColorSensational lipstick) on a postcard along with a message of support for our troops to be distributed to military bases overseas on New Year’s Eve, so they too can have a kiss at midnight! For every kiss collected, Cosmo & Maybelline New York will donate a $1 to the United Service Organizations(USO), the designated charity partner. "
